Private one-to-one preparation for your actual mediation.
We'll work through what you want, what the other person may want, where the difficult conversations are likely to be - and how you want to handle them.
So you walk into mediation with a plan.
You probably already know roughly what you want.
The problem is that mediation asks you to do more than just write down your preferred outcome and hope the other person agrees.
You need to think about:
Mediation is a conversation.
But it isn't one I would wing.
What you might propose if your first proposal goes nowhere.
And what you will do if you don't reach agreement.
That's what we'll prepare for together.
We'll prepare for your mediation.
That might mean working through:
The aim isn't to predict every possible turn.
It is to make sure you aren't making important decisions for the first time while sitting at the mediation table.
Before we meet, I'll send you a private preparation questionnaire.
You'll give me the background, tell me what is being mediated, where things currently stand and what you're hoping to resolve.
You'll also identify the areas you're most concerned about.
We meet privately for an extended strategy session.
This is where we take everything out of your head and put it on the table.
We'll work through the issues, priorities, possible proposals, areas for movement, sticking points and the dynamics you are likely to encounter.
I will ask questions.
Quite a lot of them.
Some will be mildly annoying.
That's usually where the useful preparation happens.
A practical framework for what you're trying to achieve, what you need to explore and how you want to make decisions in the room.
You'll also have a short private follow-up to use around your mediation.
Use it beforehand if something changes and you need to recalibrate.
Or use it afterwards to debrief what happened and work out your next steps.
You already have a mediation coming up.
You understand the basics of mediation but want help applying them to your situation.
There are several issues on the table and you're struggling to prioritise them.
You know what you want but aren't sure how realistic your negotiating position is.
You tend to freeze, concede, over-explain or become reactive when dealing with your former partner.
The dynamics between you make it difficult to think strategically.
There are proposals already being exchanged and you need to make sense of your options.
Or you simply don't want the first time you properly think through your mediation to be during the mediation.
